While summer means a welcome break for many school-age kids, we know that it is a busy season for you as school and sports physicals begin. As you are talking with families about the importance of immunizations, we want you to be aware of communication that was sent to Kansas school superintendents encouraging them to inform parents of their right to vaccine exemptions.
KDHE school immunization requirements have not changed. Yet, a private group has created its own state-wide campaign with the goal of informing parents of their right to opt out of vaccines for their children. You can see more of their effort here.
You know firsthand that vaccines are safe and effective at keeping children in school. KAAP is working with coalitions across the state to reaffirm this messaging to school districts and families alike.
It is important that you are prepared to have conversations about vaccine exemptions and the role of immunizations in ensuring their health and that of their community. If there is more KAAP can do to support you in this effort, please reach out.
