KAAP member Kari Harris, MD, FAAP and KU Wichita Pediatric Clinic collaborated with local school nurses with the support of a Kansas Kids Fund “Pediatricians in Action” grant to promote proper hand hygiene. Each school nurse received a t-shirt, soap, and handouts that promote hand washing. Staff at KU Wichita Pediatrics wear the same blue hand washing t-shirts so kids know their school nurse and pediatrician are working together to share this important message. This timely project has been a great way to support the difficult work school nurses are doing during the pandemic.
The lead nurse in one of the participating school districts shared this note with Dr. Harris, “I know this year is so rough on all of us. But I wanted to thank you again for doing the handwashing program. It is a great idea, and especially in this pandemic very helpful!! Just wanted you to know your efforts were not in vain. Thanks!!”
Great work Dr. Harris and KU Wichita Pediatrics, this project is a bright spot in a challenging year and your support for the community makes an impact on child health.
