Medicaid renewal notices have already been sent to approximately 90k Kansas households, and the first round of disenrollments started May 1st. If KanCare did not receive a household’s renewal paperwork by April 15th (or notices were sent to the wrong address), their coverage ended on May 1st. This coverage loss is regardless of their actual eligibility.
The same will be true for households on the renewal roster each month. Unfortunately, many households have no idea that they have lost coverage until they take their kids to the doctor or try to pick up prescriptions. Pediatricians and their staff are key front-line sources of trusted information for KanCare/CHIP members.
