First Annual Advocacy Day

KAAP leadership participated in the KAAP’s first annual Advocacy Day on February 6th in Topeka. They discussed child health issues with Senator Vicki Schmidt, Chair, Committee on Health and Public Welfare, Representative Monica Murnan, Ranking Minority Member, House Health Committee, and Senator Barbara Bollier. The group also talked strategy and learned about important issues from Amanda Gress from Kansas Action for Children and Sheldon Weisgrau of the Alliance for Healthy Kansas.

Advocacy Day attendees also took time to meet with their representatives and share some of KAAPs legislative priorities, which include:

  • Restoring funding of early childhood programs
  • Expanding mental health services to children
  • Expansion of Medicaid
  • Opposing work requirements and coverage caps for KanCare 2.0
  • Setting guidelines for the use of telehealth care in the state
