It takes a team with the coordinated, comprehensive medical response to protect Kansas children from abuse and neglect. In collaboration with Board-certified Child Abuse Pediatricians in Kansas, Child Abuse Review and Evaluation (CARE) Providers are specially trained to recognize abusive injuries and provide a medical evaluation for children under five years of age when abuse is suspected. CARE Provider Training We would like to have a CARE provider in your community! CARE providers are trained to provide a comprehensive child abuse exam. Led by Board-certified Child Abuse Pediatricians, the two-day training is open to any physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner in the state of Kansas. Parents, pediatricians, and schools have been waiting for this announcement. All children and adolescents ages 5 and up in the US may now receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The CDC Advisory Committee approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11 after the vaccine underwent the FDA’s rigorous testing and safety studies. In children ages 5 to 11, the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine was over 90% effective at preventing COVID-19 infection, and there were no serious side effects. Although in many children COVID-19 infection may have mild symptoms, children can have severe symptoms and even die from COVID-19. In a letter to Governor Kelly, Kansas Lawmakers, Board of Education Members and County Health Officers, the Kansas COVID Workgroup for Kids called for universal mask mandates to help protect children in Kansas and keep them in school.
