Did you know that Kansas has a Breastfeeding Coalition? This multidisciplinary coalition aims to bring together healthcare providers, public health officials, lactation consultants, businessmen, school officials and educators, child care center directors, civic organizers and policy makers to discuss what is working in our state and what needs to be improved. The group meets on the 2nd Friday of even months in varying locations around Kansas, and members can also participate via phone.
One of the major current projects underway is the “Business Case for Breastfeeding”, which is a workshop that takes place around Kansas to train people interested in assisting employers in setting up lactation support for breastfeeding employees. This is made possible through a grant from a United Methodist Health Ministry Foundation of Hutchinson, KS.
We would love to have you and other healthcare workers in your community join. Dues are $10 per year and can be paid to Barb Beier, Shawnee County Health Dept., 1615 SW 8th, Topeka, KS, 66606-1633. You will receive the minutes from meetings as well as pertinent national and local breaking information and news about breastfeeding efforts and research.
