The 2024 Pediatricians in Action Kansas Kids Fund grant application is now open! This grant of up to $5,000 is available to KAAP members to address a child health initiative in their practice or community. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2024. Apply for funds to improve child health in your community. Awarded Funds have recently been used to create safe zones for emotional regulation for in an elementary school, increase childhood immunizations in the Afghan immigrant population in western Kansas, and provide the opportunity for children to express themselves artistically. Resources On How to Talk With Kids About The Shooting in Kansas City

On February 14, 2024, 22 people were wounded by gunfire after the Chiefs' Super Bowl parade. At this time, one person has passed away. Among the wounded, nine of the victims were children. The senior vice president and chief nursing officer at Children’s Mercy Kansas City Hospital said all nine children were expected to make a recovery. The recent events in Kansas City have the potential to cause short and long-term effects on the psychological functioning, emotional adjustment, health and developmental trajectory of children. It is important that pediatricians, and all adults in a position to support children, are prepared to help children understand what has happened and to promote effective coping strategies. The Kansas Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics (KAAP) Annual Progress in Pediatrics Planning Committee invites pediatricians, fellows, residents, medical students, pediatric nurse practitioners and other pediatric healthcare providers to share their expertise in delivering pediatric care in primary care and other health care settings via a poster session during the Spring 2024 KAAP Progress in Pediatrics Meeting. Abstracts should focus on topics of relevance and interest for clinical pediatric practice.  There is no fee for abstract submissions. KPF Annual Appeal: Donate Today!

The Kansas Pediatric Foundation’s annual appeal enables our flagship programs, Turn a Page. Touch a Mind®, and the Pediatrician in Action Fund to impact and improve child health in Kansas. TAP-TAM brought literacy education to 7 new sites and collectively all sites will hand out 180,000 books to Kansas children in 2023. Nearly $10,000 in funding from 2022 supports two (2) KAAP member pediatricians' innovative ideas to foster children’s creativity, and the second utilizes community building to improve immunization rates in immigrant populations in western Kansas.
