In-Home Isolation After a Diagnosis of Influenza

By Lisa Gilmer, MD, FAAP The KAAP received an email from KC based urgent care provider with questions about school notices stating that anyone diagnosed with influenza needed to stay home for 5-7 days regardless of when they become afebrile or start to feel better. KAAP reached out to KDHE for more information on Kansas’s isolation regulations for influenza. According to the KDHE Requirements for Isolation and Quarantine of Infectious or Contagious Diseases- Influenza Control which went into effect in May 2019, non-hospitalized children with influenza should remain in home isolation for 7 days following onset of illness or for the duration of illness if the case is immune-compromised, except when seeking medical care.1 The KDHE regulations are in line...

On February 12, 2019, KAAP members spent the day at the state capitol in Topeka to hear about important initiatives, provide child health education and meet with legislators. The primary focus of this Advocacy Day to educate about and provide support for the Family First Prevention Services Act which provides funding to services that can prevent children from entering foster care. AAP Lead Testing ECHO now taking applications

A new AAP ECHO  with lead surveillance will offer MOC Parts 2 and 4 for practices completing the program. The deadline to apply is January 7th.
