Supreme Upholds Affordable Care Act

KAAP is pleased to see that the U.S. Supreme Court has upheld the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act of 2010. The ACA offers coverage for children that includes the “ABC’s”,  Access to health care services, age-appropriate Benefits in a medial home and health care Coverage for all children in the United States.

AAP has endorsed the Affordable Care Act and argued for the constitutionality in three separate briefs to the Supreme Court because it has addressed the ABC’s of coverage for children.

HHS Releases Frequently Asked Questions Document on EHBs

Today, HHS issued a list of frequently asked questions to provide additional information on its definition of essential health benefits (EHBs). As outlined in the Affordable Care Act, the EHB package contains the minimum benefits that must be provided by health plans beginning on or after Jan. 1, 2014 in the individual and small group markets, as well as all health plans participating in health insurance exchanges.

Last month, the AAP sent a letter to HHS, co-signed by the March of Dimes and the National Association of Children’s Hospitals, critiquing its EHB guidance.

AAP Successful in Securing Published RVUs for CPT Code 96110
January 5, 2011

Efforts by the AAP and its members have led to the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) reversing its recent decidion to not publish RVUs for CPT code 96110 (Developmental Screening).  CMS responded to the concerns of AAP leadership and AAP members who filed comments objecting to the removal of published values for payment for this important procedure.
